Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month (September to April inclusive) at our new venue, The Trinity Centre, Church Hill, Mill Street, Sutton Coldfield B72 1TF. Parking is available at the Trinity Centre.

Non-members are warmly welcome (donation £4.00). Refreshments available at meetings.

 

Thursday 12th September 2019

“Victoria’s Children” a talk by Judy Stephens on the Queen’s large and interesting family.

This talk will follow the AGM.

Thursday 10th October 2019

“Shot at Dawn” presented by David Bardell. Between 1914 and 1920, more than 3000 British soldiers were sentenced to death by court martial for many reasons. The talk centres on 309 of the men who were executed.

“Finding more in Sutton Park” presented by Dr Mike Hodder of Sutton Coldfield Archaeological Society.

“Wrong sex, Wrong instrument!” Presented by Maggie Cotton ARAM. The first female percussionist to play in a symphony orchestra, and for many years under Simon Rattle.

“Did Sutton’s Jacobites burn down Birmingham’s Temple?” in 1714. A talk by Elizabeth Allison.

“Memories of Naval Shipbuilding” presented by David Roy. David served as an apprentice Naval Architect at J.S White’s of Cowes, working mainly on Destroyers, Frigates, Lifeboats and some commercial shipping.
